Celebrating achievement: Alumnus appointed Justice of the High Court in Hong Kong

We recognise and appreciate the many significant professional achievements of our Law alumni community.

Monash Law alumnus and previous Director of Public Prosecutions in Hong Kong, The Honourable Mr Justice Kevin Zervos was appointed a Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court of Hong Kong, with effect from 16 September 2013.

Justice Zervos holds a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) degree (1975) and a Bachelor of Laws degree (1977), both from Monash University. In 2009, Justice Zervos obtained a Masters of Laws (Human Rights) degree from the University of Hong Kong.

His career began in Australia where he was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria (1978), a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of Australia (1983), and a barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales (1991).

However in 2001, Justice Zervos was called to the Bar in Hong Kong and in 2003 he was appointed as Senior Counsel. Justice Zervos then became Crown Counsel in 1992 at the then Attorney General’s Chambers where he was promoted a number of times – to Senior Crown Counsel (1993), to Deputy Principal Government Counsel (1999) and to Principal Government Counsel (2008).

Justice Zervos had been the Director of Public Prosecutions in Hong Kong since 2011, before accepting his latest appointment.

We congratulate Justice Zervos on his well-deserved appointment to the High Court of Hong Kong.
